The 10 Mile training will take place Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m. starting Saturday, February 6 through April 16, 2016, and the 5K training will take place Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m. from February 27 through April 16, 2016.  Please note: The 10 Mile training was originally scheduled to begin Saturday, January 30 but has been postponed due to snow.
Trainings are held at Bluemont Park, 601 Manchester St., at the corner of Wilson Boulevard and Manchester St. in Arlington, VA. At the intersection, enter the Bluemont Park parking lot; we will meet at the pavilion at the far end of the parking lot. Training runs will start at the W&OD Trail 3.5 mile marker. The cost for the Resolve training program is $85.00, which includes a $25 donation to Arlington Thrive.
Participants will also be encouraged to raise funds for Arlington Thrive to provide emergency financial assistance for our neighbors in need. More information about fundraising will be provided during the training program.
This training program will use the Jeff Galloway training method to help people of all fitness levels or running experience prepare to complete their chosen race, 5K, ten miler, or half-marathon. Participants will learn to include regularly scheduled walk breaks with running to help increase endurance and general overall fitness at a gradual and safe pace. This training method reduces the risk for injury because it reduces the wear and tear on the legs during training sessions.  For more information, contact Coach Denny Pinch at dennypinch@comcast.net or call 703-979-3245.

40th Anniversary Event Was a Great Success!

On November 18, Arlington Thrive celebrated its 40th anniversary with a festive event at the Army Navy Country Club. Over 140 guests attended, and funds raised exceeded $140,000.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of a proclamation from Arlington County Board Members Mary Hynes and J. Walter Tejada that praised Arlington Thrive’s 40 years of service to Arlington residents in need. Mr. Tejada served as the auctioneer for a lively “reverse auction” that raised $55,000 for Arlington Thrive’s Daily Fund. Guests also enjoyed a mini concert from members of the Metropolitan Chorus and the premiere of a new Arlington Thrive video, produced by Marymount University students.
Thank you to everyone who supported the event and helped us raise much-needed emergency funds for our neighbors in need!
A special thank you and our sincerest gratitude to Dr. Mitchell Davis, M.D. who generously provided the 200% matching gift incentive for our Reverse Auction: Daily Emergency Needs Fund.

Happy Hour for Young Professionals

Thank you to our guests who attended Arlington Thrive’s “Close the Door to Homelessness” Happy Hour for Young Professionals on Wednesday, October 22! We met new friends and supporters who were eager to hear about Arlington Thrive’s work to prevent eviction and homelessness in our community. Our guests were excited to learn about the different ways they can volunteer for Arlington Thrive, including becoming a Daily Fund volunteer and participating in our upcoming Resolve to Run program (information coming soon on our website).
Finally, thank you to our host, Sushi Rock, and the following local businesses for sponsoring our raffle: Liberty Tavern, Fire Works Pizza, Rocklands BBQ, Heavy Seas Alehouse, Italian Store, Sun and Moon Yoga, Ford’s Theatre, and Pacers Clarendon.
