Medical Assistance Through Dr. Davis Fund
The Mitchell E. Davis, MD Emergency Medical and Dental Assistance Fund is a dedicated fund that provides crucial financial assistance to Arlington residents facing challenges in meeting medical and dental expenses. This fund, which was created through an endowment by Dr. Mitchell Davis to ensure individuals and families can access essential healthcare services, including medical treatments, dental procedures, and prescription medications. By alleviating the financial burden of healthcare costs, the Dr. Davis Fund plays a vital role in fostering community resilience and empowering residents to prioritize their well-being. This initiative reflects Arlington Thrive’s commitment to building a healthier, stronger community by addressing critical gaps in access to care.
The Dr. Davis Fund has provided life-altering support to families like Sarah’s. When Sarah approached Arlington Thrive, she was the sole breadwinner for her family. Her husband was struggling with debilitating medical challenges after a car accident. Sarah was left serving as both caretaker and breadwinner. When her own medical troubles arose, resulting in surgery which put her out of work for months, she knew she could turn to us. Through the Dr. Davis Fund, Arlington Thrive was able to provide Sarah and her husband with essential medical equipment that would improve their quality of life and allow them to proceed on their healing journey with peace of mind.
According to the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF), an independent health policy research center, people with medical debt are more likely to face other forms of financial stress. KFF’s 2022 Health Care Debt Survey found among adults, 24% say they had medical or dental bills that were past due or that they could not pay, and a total of 41% had some type of health care debt, including on credit cards or owed to family members.
