In just 5 days, Arlington Thrive distributed 11,300 diapers to low-income families across Arlington. This critical intervention was made possible by a single donation of $2,500. By using a virtual-first model, we met parents on their terms, fitting essential aid into their overstretched schedules to ensure their babies are safe, dry, and healthy.
But this is just a start. For thousands of parents in Arlington, diaper insecurity is a daily, silent crisis.
Diapers are a basic necessity for healthy child development, yet thousands of families in Arlington struggle to afford them. Without enough diapers, parents cannot send children to daycare, which limits their ability to work and earn income. Diaper insecurity is a hidden crisis that affects family stability, child health, and economic mobility.
According to the Urban Institute, diaper insecurity is widespread in our community:
- 2,500 children under age 3 in Arlington live in households that cannot consistently afford diapers.
- To close the gap, families need 1,510,200 additional diapers every year.
This is not just a statistic. It’s a call to action. Every diaper we provide helps a parent stay employed and a child stay dry and healthy.
You can help us bridge the diaper gap for families across Arlington. Your support guarantees that Arlington’s youngest have the essential resources they need to flourish.
