Arlington Thrive has a long and trusted history of responding nimbly to emerging needs in our community, supporting our neighbors through times of uncertainty, from the COVID-19 crisis to shifting local economic conditions. As a long-time provider of last-resort emergency assistance, Thrive is uniquely positioned to intervene when a small amount of support can prevent individuals and families from spiraling into long-term instability. With federal workers making up over 10% of Arlington County’s population—and with the Pentagon in our backyard—the impacts of federal job loss ripple quickly through our community. The unprecedented scale of recent federal staffing changes is leaving many mid-career professionals vulnerable.
The Federal Workforce Resilience Fund was established to extend critical support to Arlington residents who have dedicated their careers to public service and are now facing unexpected financial hardship due to recent, large-scale federal workforce reductions. This Fund seeks to address a critical gap by providing timely financial relief and resource support to help these neighbors maintain stability, protect their families, and avoid sliding into poverty due to a temporary disruption beyond their control.
Assistance through the Federal Workforce Resilience Fund will be provided in the form of direct payments to third-party vendors to cover the following:
- Rent and Security Deposits
- Utilities
- Moving/Storage expenses
- Grocery/Health supplies
- Medical expenses, including prescriptions
- Dental expenses
- Vision exams/Eyeglasses
To be eligible to access support from this fund, you must meet the following requirements:
- Arlington resident
- At or below 80% Area Media Income for 3 months
- Former or furloughed government employees whose job was affected by recent policy changes and currently are not being paid a salary.
- Balance must be $1,000 or below
If you meet these requirements, click here to apply for emergency assistance. If you find the fund has been closed for the month, please check back on the 10th of the following month, or visit our resource page.
